Letters to the Editor Supporting Our Candidates

Daily Star – Nov. 2, 2017

Polens and Janiszewski understand agriculture industry

As a town of Meredith farmer, I am writing in support of Rachel Polens and John Janiszewski for Meredith Town Council on Nov. 7.

Both of these candidates understand the changing and growing agricultural industry in Meredith. They support policies that will maintain our rural character and create agricultural jobs. While the dairy industry shrunk decades ago, Meredith has substantial new farming enterprises in grass-based beef, poultry, and pork production. These businesses are providing healthy, sustainably raised food for local buyers, and finding new markets in the NY metro area, in the 200-year tradition of the Catskill Turnpike.

Rachel Polens in an entrepreneur and understands the importance of agriculture to the local economy and jobs. She has been a strong supporter of initiatives to connect local farmers to profitable markets, and to gain county and state funding to help the transition of fallow pasture in Meredith to profitable grazing enterprises. Meredith’s farm economy will continue to benefit from her values and hard work on the board.

John Janiszewski is the strong sole farmer voice on the town board. He has successfully farmed for decades, navigating the changing demands of the marketplace. He has pioneered profitable, environmentally sound practices in aquaculture, meat and crop production. We need his experience and strong judgment.

Please support a thriving farm economy and come out and vote for Rachel and John on Nov. 7.

In Your Opinion: Polens and Janiszewski are excellent Meredith candidates

On Nov. 7 the residents of the town of Meredith will have the opportunity of selecting two members for the town board. I would urge them to vote for Rachel Polens and John Janiszewski, two excellent candidates.

Rachel, who has been an active board member for four years, is a person who does her homework. She thoroughly analyses and researches each issue brought before the board. As a Korean War veteran, I am particularly grateful for her successful efforts to give war veterans a partial exemption on their town property tax.

John, who has served the people of Meredith for eight years, is a native of Meredith, a teacher, and a farmer whose practical experience enables him to get to the core of a problem and to form the most simple and effective solution. His knowledge of the town has been valuable in the board’s deliberations.

Meredith benefits by having Rachel and John on its board. So on Nov. 7, please vote on Row A or Row E for Rachel Polens and John Janiszewski.

Support Polens, Janiszewski in Town of Meredith

As a U.S. Army combat veteran and resident of the town of Meredith, I want to express my support for Rachel Polens and John Janiszewski who are running for re-election to the Meredith Town Council on Nov. 7.

For the past two years, I and several other Meredith veterans have been urging the town of Meredith to increase the property tax exemption for veterans living in Meredith. It was only after Rachel devoted her time and energy to understanding the implications of tax exemptions that the issue got the Board’s attention. She did her homework and kept the issue on the agenda.

John, with his characteristic common sense and ability to get things done, threw his weight behind the initiative and it passed.

These two council members have shown initiative, hard work, courage and a commitment to acknowledging our veterans’ service in a tangible way. Talk is cheap. They actually walked the walk. Let’s re-elect these two experienced and responsive candidates on Nov. 7.
